Providence Medical Center completes major remodel

Darland recently completed a major renovation and addition for Providence Medical Center (PMC), a Critical Access Hospital in Wayne, Nebraska.
Recognizing the growing healthcare needs of the community, PMC aimed to modernize its facilities while maintaining uninterrupted patient care. Darland, having established a strong relationship with PMC through two previous projects over the past decade, was selected to bring this vision to life.
The first phase of the project included a 20,000-square-foot addition on the hospital’s south side, designed to accommodate the rapidly expanding imaging and specialty outpatient services. This first phase, aligned with BWBR’s master plan, introduced a new campus main entry and central registration, consolidating radiology services—including MRI and CT modalities—into a unified location. A new concourse connected this area to the remodeled spaces, while a dedicated outpatient clinic was created to house infusion rooms, stress testing, psychiatry, counseling, and staff support areas.
The project also addressed security concerns by consolidating entry points, creating a prominent and secure main entrance. Darland used strategic phasing, to minimize disruptions to hospital operations, ensuring critical care continued throughout the process.
Following the completion of the addition, Darland transitioned to a 20,000-square-foot remodel, transforming the surgical suite with two new operating rooms, converting an existing OR into an endoscopy suite, and adding private pre-op and recovery spaces. Areas for materials management, wound care, cardiac rehabilitation, and administrative offices were also updated.
To enhance operational efficiency, a third phase included the installation of a supplemental air handling unit and a renovation of the hospital's pharmacy.
Strategic selection of interior finishes in both the addition and remodeled spaces ensured a refreshed, welcoming ambiance, prioritizing long-term cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.
This project represents a significant enhancement of the healthcare services available in Northeast Nebraska and demonstrates PMC's commitment to evolving with the needs of its patients.
