Bergan Mercy Surgery Center
Project Summary
Bergan Mercy Surgery Center
Darland provided comprehensive construction management services for a new ambulatory surgery center (ASC). Bergan Mercy ASC is located within the South Pavilion addition at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. The ASC was a joint venture between Alegent Health and a physicians group represented by Health Inventures, LLC of Broomfield, CO.
“The ASC was built while the overall Pavilion was still under construction, which presented a unique set of challenges,” said Darland project manager Kipp Dimig. Like any surgery center, the project incorporated several highly specialized mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) requirements. In this case, the project was designed after the expansion had commenced; so one of Darland’s key requirements was to integrate the surgery center’s MEP systems with the systems already installed in the new South Pavilion structure.
“We conducted weekly MEP team meetings and made extensive use of 3-D modeling design applications to evaluate all facets of systems integration prior to each build-out phase,” Dimig said. “Our process enabled us to effectively identify and resolve any system conflicts or plan discrepancies in a proactive manner.”
In addition, Darland facilitated communications between Alegent Health, Health Inventures, mechanical engineers, specialized subcontractors, and the construction manager for the South Pavilion addition. Darland has used these processes successfully on other healthcare construction projects with the result of on-time, on-budget project delivery.
